The Region and activities

Clos le Castant is situated in the middle of the triangle Périgueux - the Périgord Blanc - North of our estate, Bergerac - the Périgord Pourpre - South-West, and Sarlat - the Périgord Noir - South-East. North of Périgueux, you will find the Périgord Vert. The Dordogne devided into four areas.


Each of these areas has it own charme and history, all of them have an enormous choice of sightseeing possibilities and "To Do-Things", all the areas are enjoying a very mild climat the whole year round, so your holiday destination is worth a stay any time of the year!

The surroundings of Clos le Castant are ondulating with a lot of woods, tranquil

walking paths and here or there a river or a little lake.

Golf: (clic) you will find 8 courses in the Dordogne and within a radius of only 65 Km from our estate. You will be able to practice your aproach and bunker shots, and putting on our own practice area very soon!

Swimming, we invite you to use our private pool and surrounding terraces any time during your stay with us.

There are a lot of walking paths, one example is the "Route des Pigeoniers". Really enjoable, we can provide Ingangsweg tot het domeinyou with area maps!

The whole area is really a must for people loving mountain bikes, sand paths, concrete in full nature.

Badminton and Table tennis on our estate.

Tennis , the closest is in Ste-Alvère (3 Km), but also on many other locations.

Kanoe or Kayak is possible on alsmost every river, closest in the village Lalinde on the Dordogne, less sporty ones can enjoy a really nice trip with a "Gabarre", traditional boats who let you enjoy the fauna and flora and the mediaval history and sites along the river. Trips from 1 hour to a full day, with or without catering on board.

Fishing, is possible, but you need to posess a - "Droit de pêche" - for sale i.e in Lalinde. You can fish in the rivers and the lakes.

Horse riding is also available, nearest is Mauzac, but also in Alles and lot more places. Sometimes at the manège itself, or promenades or ...... Poneys for children.

Mountain climbing, and Speleologie i.e. in Vézac, Domme and Castels.


"Sight seeing and visits"

People say: "Périgord, Pays de l'homme", indeed espescialy the Périgord Noiris the heart of préhistory: absolutely worth a visit is Les Eyzies, the Roque St Christophe, Lascaux, thee different caves will give you in sight of how people survived and lived in the préhistory. Witness of which the lots of wall paintings, famous in the world.
People also say "the Périgord is the land of 1001castles, too much to write them all down here, but some nice examples in the immediate neighbourhood are:

Château de Monbazillac , XVIº century, history of the Protestantism, collection of furniture from the XVIIº century, the wine museum. Degustation and selling of the famous Monbazillac wines.

Château de Puyguilhem , Xº century had a significant role during the 100 year war. To be visited the whole year after apointment.

Château de Montclar , XVIº century was the house of the Lords d'Estignac, only to be visited from Eastern till All Saints (Novembre) and by apointment.

Also Musea are countless in the Dordogne, you will find the Tabaco museum going back 3000 years of history and civilisations in Bergerac.

The Gallo-Roman museum (Iº till IVº century) in Montcaret.

Thet Aquarium museum about the Dordogne river with 33 different kinds of fish, the history about fishing in the river from the préhistory till today. At Creysse.

Also really recommendable is the Aquarium du Périgord Noir in Le Bugue (15 Km), the biggest privat aquarium in Europe with 3 miljon liters of water and more then 6.000 fishes!
